The widespread adoption of computer mediated communication (CMC) has facilitated the increase of team-based collaboration. Internet could lower transaction costs dramatically in the sense that anyone with the connection ability can interact with other members instantaneously. People optimistically believe this new communication mechanism could provide a technological basis for new forms of spatially dispersed, loosely bounded, networks of scholars that makes individual network more permeable and connected than the fitful, amorphous relationships of the past and less physically proximate and bureaucratically structured than contemporary universities (Koku and Wellman, 2002). Based on our results, the use of email message does significantly relate to scholar’s current collaboration probability and strongly associate with co-authored publication and international collaboration. At the same time, email is helpful for increasing the size of collaboration research and weak ties. We also observe less strong ties and more weak ties could facilitate academic productivity instead for scholars in Taiwan.
過去對於電腦中介溝對於學術生產力的相關研究資料中,發現資訊科技的使用會影響學術研究的運作方式,對於提升原本處於學術邊陲的研究成員的學術生產力有所幫助,同時也會改變學者間共同合作研究的型態與規模。本研究以社會學、環境工程、物理和農學大型計畫四個學科之學者為研究對象針對其日常的電子郵件使用情形、與他人合作進行研究的情形、與學術生產力之間的關係進行調查。研究分析結果顯示,在國內學者之間,電腦中介溝通對於改變合作研究的型態並無影響,也沒有增加學者間共同合作研究的學術生產力。但結果也顯示,電腦中介溝通的使用,則會讓學者有更多參與國際學術研究的機會。整體而言,在台灣地區電腦中介溝通在學術專業社群中,無提升偏遠地區學者學術生產力之效用,但對於學者參與國際學術研究則有正向的增強關係。

The gamma-epsilon-c subunits of the FOF1 ATP synthase make up the rotor assembly which couples proton transport to catalysis of ATP synthesis or hydrolysis. Previous mutagenesis, functional and EPR studies from our laboratory suggest that interactions among the three subunits play important roles in efficient coupling and we hypothesize that there are conformational changes that must occur during rotation. To further investigate the structure and dynamics of the interface, we are using the site-directed spin labeling strategy of EPR spectroscopy on the gamma-epsilon subunit interface. EPR spectra of isolated epsilon subunits with spin labels modifying cysteine substitutions from epsilonG33C to epsilonA39C show an alternating mobility indicating a beta-strand secondary structure. When bound to F1 complex, spectra of spin-labeled epsilonE29C and epsilonL42C show large decreases of peak-to-peak amplitude, which are likely due to tertiary contacts with the gamma subunit. The epsilonL42C as well as the epsilonP40C and epsilonI34C mutant subunits bind to the F1 complex with lower affinity and affect ATP hydrolysis activity indicating that this region of the epsilon subunit and its interactions with the gamma subunit are important for the inhibition function of the epsilon subunit. The FOF1 membrane with epsilonG37C, epsilonA39C, epsilonP40C, and epsilonA44C mutations synthesize ATP with higher activity and coupling efficiency. Interestingly, the spectra of these four spin labeled F1-bound epsilon subunits demonstrate lower mobility when F1 was reconstituted with the membranous FO sector, suggesting that these four mutations are in close contact with the c subunit. These results indicate that the effects of the epsilon subunit on coupling are mediated through interactions with the c subunit, and the hydrolysis inhibition effect are at least partially through interactions with the gamma subunit.

This paper adopts the sample of cash dividend changes from all listed A-share firms in China over the period 2000 to 2004 and applies an event study in order to investigate the announcement effect of cash dividend changes and to examine simultaneously if the dividend signaling hypothesis holds in China’s stock markets. Empirical results indicate that the announcement of cash dividend changes has a positive influence on share prices, but such results only partly support the dividend signaling hypothesis.
